How fortunate we are to be able to order from an array of fantastic restaurants. Enjoying a delicious restaurant standard dinner at home has become a steadfast source of joy and something of an occasion to look forward to each week.

We had been eyeing up the Vie de Chateaux takeaway menu for a while, so it was high time we indulged in some of the delicious delights on offer. This bijou French Restaurant based in Naas, County Kildare, is a go to for us in “normal” times. We have enjoyed many a Birthday dinner, catch up with friends and a good old fashioned date night whiling away the hours over delicious food, wine and the fantastic service that is synonymous with Vie de Chateaux.

We debated back and forth over the menu before ordering, wondering if the dishes we have such fond memories of enjoying in house could really translate back to the plate in our house. Alas, our worrying was needless. Each dish was packaged ever so carefully, so as to retain as much of the restaurant style aesthetic of each dish as possible.

Not ones to hold back, we went with the full three course menu each. Starting off with Confit Duck and Wholegrain Mustard Croquette €9.00. Three golden globes of crisp crumb housed succulent shredded duck enrobed in a wholegrain mustard. The mustard cutting curtly through the richness of the duck meat. A side of celeriac and orange segments adding a zingy lift to each bite, throughly enjoyable.

We debated long and hard over ordering the Scallop and Chorizo Skewers, Pea Mouselline €13.00. Mainly because Scallops can be a funny one to enjoy at home. We are so used to getting them at their best, served straight from pan to plate whilst basking in that much missed, glorious restaurant ambiance. However, we need not have worried, these little mollusks were a marvellous choice. Smokey, spicy chorizo and a creamy pea mouselline combined to create a festival of flavour. As for the ambiance, lots of candles, some fresh flowers, music and the right company…it will never replace the experience we all miss so much but if supporting our restaurants in this way helps, then that is what we shall continue to do.

It is no secret that the wellington has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity throughout lockdown. It is definitely one of the tastiest of all the lockdown food trends (Banana Bread can take a hike) Fillet Steak Wellington, Dauphine Potatoes, Port Sauce €25.00. We gave this a gentle reheat in the oven whilst enjoying our starter course and it retained all of its goodness. Terrifically tender fillet steak, mushroom duxelles seasoned to perfection all wrapped up in a gloriously buttery puff pastry. We ordered a side of green beans but this was not necessary as a side of roast vine cherry tomatoes and some mini potato croquettes were provided as part of the dish along with a punchy Port sauce, simply divine.

Our second main course, Sea Bream Fillet with Pea and Tomato Risotto €17.00. The meaty texture and delicate flavour of the seabream complimented beautifully by the creamy richness of the tomato risotto. A great example of the type of restaurant dish we miss but never venture to recreate at home – and why would we when we can now order and enjoy it at home!

Why order one dessert when you can order two! The lightest, most moreish Giant Macaron with Fresh Raspberry and Mascarpone €8.00. Sweet mascarpone and juicy raspberries sandwiched between two delicate crisp shells with that iconic soft, chewy centre – C’était très bon.

A quick blast in the oven brought these beauties back to their best. Warm Churros with Milk Jam and Chocolate Sauce €6.00. That unmistakeable sugar crisp exterior along with milk jam and chocolate sauce for dipping make for a seriously addictive dessert.

We actually ordered a selection of breads also, which came in the form of a full loaf of Seed topped Guinness Bread and a Sourdough baguette – you won’t have room for them on the night but they make the perfect treat to wake up the morning after so order them, you will not regret it!

Vie de Chateaux have accomplished, with finesse, the not so simple task of delivering restaurant quality dishes that lose none of the quality you receive from days of dining in house. Each dish travelled exceptionally well and we will most definitely order again.
