Working hard to focus on the brighter and lighter days ahead in 2021 we made a conscious decision to try and reclaim our weekends in some small way. The distinguishing features of weekend life can easily get wiped out, particularly with so many of us now working from home. So rather than making martyrs of ourselves to resolutions this year, instead we made a plan to enjoy each Friday night with a tempting takeaway and some great wine.

Ely Wine Store in Maynooth has long been a favourite of ours so a quick visit to their website saw us secure our first Friday date night of the year. Ordering the Ely Charcuterie & Wine Box €45.00 gave us something nice to look forward to and brought back some of the much missed excitement for the arrival of the weekend. Ely Wine Store in Maynooth provide a delivery service which we have availed of more than once throughout lockdown life.

Our box contained two cheeses, a gorgeous Gouda with its almost caramel like flavour was particularly delicious with a dollop of the house made fig chutney. Our second cheese was a Montagnolo Blue, relatively delicate but with a subtle hint of spiciness, gorgeous with the Jamón Iberico

As well as the meats and cheese, a hearty supply of crackers, pesto, olives, smoked almonds and sourdough baguette along with a bottle of wine which is included in the price of €45 makes this a very affordable way to inject a little luxury into the weekend.

We choose the La Salare Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Italy 2019 which Ely describe as, “Quite possibly our best find of the year, this is a deliciously juicy, fruity yet structured Montepulciano. Packed with cherry and plum fruit, good weight and just enough tannin to keep things interesting, it is perfectly drinkable on its own, but even better with food.”

It is impossible not to add a few extra treats to the cart when shopping with Ely online. The award winning wine selection available is the stuff of wine lovers dreams.

If you are looking for a little indulgence we cannot recommend Ely’s at Home offerings highly enough. Visit www.elywinebar.ie to view the full selection.
