Benecol® celebrates 30 years of happy hearts since 1995

Heart-loving food brand Benecol® is cutting through the noise this World Heart Day with its new ‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ campaign – fronted by four-time Olympian and Benecol® brand ambassador Sonia O’Sullivan. In a world where fitness trackers and apps leave one in three people feeling overwhelmed*, the campaign strips it back to one number that really matters: your cholesterol. High cholesterol can affect anyone, even an Olympian. Sonia O’Sullivan was surprised to find her cholesterol levels were higher than target levels when tested recently.

With half of Irish adults affected by high cholesterol**, a leading cause of coronary heart disease, Benecol® is on a mission to show how small, simple steps can make a big difference. By knowing your number and taking control, cholesterol becomes one simple number to take control of and  improve through daily healthy habits. Simply eating Benecol foods each day as part of your healthy diet can lower your cholesterol by 7–10% within two-three weeks, thanks to the plant stanols in these foods.

Benecol’s ‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ campaign aims to alleviate anxiety around cholesterol testing, releasing encouraging research to reveal that 35% of people recently tested found their cholesterol results to be better than expected versus only 17% receiving results that were worse than expected*. Over 80% of respondents feel that health and wellness guidance consisting of a few simple daily habits would motivate them to make changes for the better*.

Speaking of Benecol’s ‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ campaign, Sonia O’Sullivan has this to say “I was delighted to team up with Benecol® for their ‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ campaign. I recently had my cholesterol tested and was surprised to find it was on the high side.  Knowing that high cholesterol affects 1 in 2 Irish people and is a leading cause of coronary heart disease, it’s so important to stay on top of it. Now that I know my number, I feel empowered to lower my cholesterol by incorporating a couple of healthy habits into my everyday life. It doesn’t feel like a daunting task knowing that a few simple steps like adding Benecol® to my daily routine can make a big impact.

Benecol’s Laura O’Connell, Marketing Manager, Raisio Group shared: “We’re proud to be celebrating Benecol’s 30th birthday by launching the ‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ campaign. Our research shows that many people feel overwhelmed by health data, so we wanted to simplify the conversation and help people to feel in control by focusing on a single important number and showing how small changes can improve it. Incorporating Benecol® into a healthy diet can lower cholesterol by 7-10% within just three weeks – a simple and achievable starting point.”
